After learning the wonderful news that I was expecting, I was determined to register for a birth center delivery. That was my desire; giving birth naturally. After some months of prenatal care by midwives, I had to switch to an OB due to the fact that my pregnancy was now considered high risk.

I left the birth center with much regret which made me apprehensive about my hospital appointments. I did not love the hospital environment and just the idea of giving life in such a place was making me upset. Here I was, each visit more and more defensive.

"One of my sisters suggested that I read some books on pregnancy and birth; life changing events!"

One of my sisters suggested that I read some books on pregnancy and birth. Life changing event! Becoming knowledgeable about my body, how it works, understanding the biological and physiological processes and grasping how my body communicates to me completely changed my perspective and approach towards birth. I also changed my mood towards having a hospital birth.

I still wished not to give birth under the care of a doctor and God allowed this to happen for me. My birth experience was only between my sister turned improvised doula and I. The nurse came every now and then but the OB had been called on an emergency C-section. I was able to labor on my terms. The OB came after my son was born and performed the routine checks.

For future moms, please educate yourself, read and research as much as you can! Being a believer, I also believe that Jesus answers his children's prayers so do not hesitate to confide in him.
